Innovation, collaboration, and youthful creativity came alive at the University of Nairobi’s C4DLab during the 2026 Innovation Bootcamp and Hackathon held throughout April 2026.
The Bootcamp, held from 20th–24th April 2026, brought together 101 students and innovators from the University of Nairobi and participating TVET institutions including Kaiboi National Polytechnic, Kaimosi Friends National Polytechnic, Nairobi National Polytechnic, Nyakach Technical and Vocational College, and Emurua Dikirr Technical Training Institute, among others.
Participants underwent intensive training sessions on Design Thinking, Human-Centered Design, Product Development, Business Modelling, Team Collaboration, and Pitching. The sessions created an engaging environment where students explored innovative ways of solving real-world challenges affecting communities and industries.
Building on the momentum from the Bootcamp, 50 participants advanced to the Hackathon phase held from 27th–30th April 2026 at C4DLab. During the Hackathon, teams worked tirelessly to conceptualize and develop innovative digital solutions addressing societal and industry challenges.
The atmosphere throughout the Hackathon was filled with creativity, teamwork, problem-solving, and resilience as participants refined prototypes, received mentorship, and prepared their final presentations before a panel of judges and mentors from academia and industry.
At the conclusion of the Hackathon, five outstanding teams emerged as winners and were awarded cash prizes in recognition of their creativity, innovation, teamwork, and the potential impact of their solutions. The awards served as motivation for participants to continue refining their ideas into sustainable and impactful innovations.
Beyond technical skills, the Bootcamp and Hackathon empowered participants with critical skills in leadership, communication, entrepreneurship, teamwork, and problem-solving while also creating opportunities for networking, mentorship, and future collaboration.
The success of the events reaffirmed the University of Nairobi C4DLab’s commitment to nurturing innovation, entrepreneurship, and digital transformation by creating platforms that empower young innovators to turn ideas into impact.
To all participants, mentors, facilitators, partners, and organizers — thank you for making the 2026 Bootcamp and Hackathon impactful, inspiring, and memorable.
The journey of innovation continues.
