A dedicated team from the University of Nairobi’s Kenya Inclusivity in Tech Initiative (KITI) has been crisscrossing the country since last Thursday, amplifying the call for accessible digital education. Led by Prof. Elish Abade, Ms. Selina Ochukut, Mr. Paul Rabala, and Mr. Kenneth Owuocha, the team has so far reached four of the seven partner TVET institutions: Emurua Dikir in Narok, Kakrao in Migori, Nyakach in Kisumu, and the twin stops of Kaimosi and Kaiboi in the western region. Their mission is clear—to spread awareness of KITI’s free, self-paced tech courses and invite more young Kenyans into the digital fold.
KITI, powered by the University of Nairobi and its innovation hub C4DLab, offers a rich catalogue of in-demand courses through its online platform. From Python programming and artificial intelligence to cybersecurity and blockchain, the initiative is opening doors to learners across the country, regardless of background or location. The learning management system is mobile-friendly and designed for flexibility, helping eliminate traditional barriers to upskilling.
More than a public sensitization tour, this road campaign underscores the University of Nairobi’s leadership in driving Kenya’s digital transformation. By embedding practical, future-facing tech skills within the framework of TVET institutions, KITI is fostering not just digital literacy but pathways to economic empowerment and innovation. The programme also promotes mentorship, encouraging direct engagement between learners and industry professionals.
As the KITI team continues its journey to the remaining institutions, one message rings loud: digital opportunity should be a universal right. Through this groundbreaking initiative, the University is ensuring that no learner is left behind in the tech revolution. For those ready to shape the future, the moment to enroll and begin is now—and it’s absolutely free. The upcountry visit ended at Kaiboi Technical Institute, and the team will now shift attention to Nairobi, where two institutions, Nairobi Nairobi National Polytechnic and Equator Institute of Professional Studies are on their schedule.
